Bill Belichick has a solid relationship with President Donald Trump -- it's no secret. The New England Patriots head coach, apparently, has earned himself a position in Trump's administration because of it.
According to a press release from the White House Press Secretary's Office, Belichick has been named to Trump's Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition. The objective of the council is to “increase sports participation among youth of all backgrounds and abilities and to promote healthy and active lifestyles for all Americans.”
President Trump's appointment of Belichick isn't at all surprising. He has spoken highly of Belichick in the past, even hosting the Patriots at the White House in 2017 following their Super Bowl LI win over the Atlanta Falcons.
Former New York Yankees closer Mariano Rivera was named a Co-Chair alongside Misty May-Treanor and Herschel Junior Walker. Rivera's appointment also is no surprise as the Hall of Famer has publicly defended his support of Trump in the past.
Other notable members of the council include former Boston Red Sox standout Johnny Damon, former Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Urban Meyer and the NFL's vice president of football operations Troy Vincent.
