Five Quick Questions with Luke Evangelista
USA TODAY Sports

Forward Luke Evangelista is in his second season with the Nashville Predators after playing 24 games in early 2023. Technically in his rookie season in 2023-2024, Evangelista ranks ninth in points among rookies. I recently caught up with the 21-year-old Toronto native to ask him five quick questions.

What is one word you would use to describe your season?

"I honestly just say a learning season," Evangelista said. "I've learned a lot this year. It's my first full year in the NHL. I'm feeling the physical impact of it, playing almost every other day, get worn down. Mentally too. That kind of thing."

"I'm just working on my mental and physical game. It's been a lot of learning, but it's been a lot of fun, too."

What is something that you do every game day?

On game days, Evangelista is a committed creature of habit when it comes to fueling his body.

"I eat the same meals every game day," Evangelista said. "The same breakfast, same lunch every game day."

He was quick to clarify that he does mix it up on non-game days when it comes to what he eats, but he has figured out what to eat to feel ready to compete, and on game days he does not deviate from it.

Ever.

If you could change or clarify one rule in the NHL what would it be and why?

"I would love to do overtime just three on three for twenty minutes," he said.

"I love it. I think three on three is so fun. I'd just get rid of the shootout," Evangelista said.

"Let's just keep playing."

If you have downtime are you more likely to read a book, listen to music, or watch a show?

"Anything but read a book," Evangelista said laughing. "What are the other options?"

Evangelista is most likely to watch a show. Right now he is watching a Netflix show called American Vandal, a "mockumentary" set in a high school.

"It's pretty good," Evangelista said. "It's about these high school students. Someone gets expelled from the school and they're trying to see if you actually deserve to be expelled."

"Interesting little show. I just started that one, but it's pretty good."

What's your favorite hockey memory?

"The big ones that stand out are getting drafted, first NHL game, first goal," Evangelista answered.

"I'd say first goal. That was insane just being on the ice watching that puck go in. It was an insane feeling. I'd probably go with that,"

His first NHL goal came in Evangelista's fourth NHL game. On March 6, 2023 the Predators played the Canucks, and in the third period Evangelista cleaned up a big rebound and skated past goaltender Arturs Silovs to score his first career goal.

Not one to do things halfway, Evangelista went on to score a second goal later in the third period tipping Tyson Barrie's shot from the blue line into the net to tie the game. The Predators eventually lost in a shootout, but Evangelista's first goals helped the Predators earn a point that night.
